EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Both the men’s and women’s’ swimming and diving teams at the University of Evansville were announced as a Scholar-Athlete team for the Spring 2012 semester, as named by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

UE’s women’s swimming and diving team tied for the fifth-highest team grade point average at the Division I level with a combined 3.56, while the men’s squad tied for 30th with a 3.10 GPA.

“I am very proud of this team and how they represent the athletic department and the University of Evansville,” said head coach Rickey Perkins. “They continue to impress me with their desire to see how good they can be academically and athletically.”

Last year’s women’s squad produced seven members of the Missouri Valley Conference’s Scholar-Athlete team while the men’s team saw four athletes placed on the Academic All-Mid America Conference team. Senior swimmer Colin Gray was also named as a First Team Academic All-American selection, marking Evansville’s first athlete to receive First Team Academic All-America status since soccer player Mike Luttrull was selected for the 2010 Men’s Soccer First Team.

The Scholar All America Team award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented to teams achieving this standard in the fall semester and in the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).
