EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Looking to build off of a 2-0 start, the University of Evansville men’s soccer team will try to remain undefeated as it travels to Georgia State for a 6 p.m. matchup on Saturday evening.
After a pair of 2-1 victories over Lipscomb and Belmont last weekend, the Aces received three votes in this week’s NSCAA/Continental Tire Division I Men’s National Poll. It marked the first time UE received votes in the poll since the 2010 campaign.
Evansville is 2-0 for the first time since 2008 and for the second time overall since the 2003 campaign. Leading the way in week one was
Dylan Terry. In the season-opening victory over Lipscomb, the sophomore tallied a game-high three shots. His offensive prowess helped Evansville get on the board in Sunday’s win over Belmont. Despite taking just one shot, he made it count, scoring to put UE up 1-0 early in the contest.
Terry is not the only offensive weapon for UE. Four different players have scored the four goals in the Aces’ two victories thus far.
Nate Opperman and
Alex Kapsalis provided the offense against the Bison before Terry and
Jesse Sharp notched goals against the Bruins.
Saturday’s opponent, Georgia State, is also receiving votes in the latest national poll. The Panthers enter Saturday’s match with their first 2-0 mark since 2003. They opened up their season a week ago at the Mike Gibbs Memorial Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla.
Georgia State began the year with a 1-0 shutout of Jacksonville on Friday before taking a 3-1 win over North Florida on Sunday. Alex Vivanco has been GSU’s top offensive threat, scoring two of their four goals thus far while notching a team-high seven shots.
Next weekend, Evansville returns to Arad McCutchan Stadium to host the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic. Making the trip to Evansville will be Portland, Cincinnati and Bradley.
