EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
Junior Kelby Jenkins ran a personal best 14:40.44 to win the UE Mid-America Opener as the men’s and women’s team each took second place at the UE Cross Country Course on Saturday morning.

“We found out a lot today; both of our teams performed extremely well and had a few things gone our way, we could have beaten a ranked team in Louisville,” head coach Don Walters said.  “I am very proud of Kelby winning her event.  She has trained very hard over the summer and her hard work has shown.”

Jenkins blitzed the competition in the opener, topping Michele Molydynia by 16 seconds to win the event.  Freshman Elizabeth Kingshott took third place while Alyssa Moran finished in seventh.

Evansville had five of the top ten finishers as Nicole Kreuzman placed ninth and Kirsten Perrey rounded out the top ten.

Senior Cody Stein was the top performer for the Aces in the 6K as his time of 18:33.20 was good enough to take fourth place, just ahead of Josh Genet’s time of 18:46.75.

The duo of Andrew Barrett and Sam Mires rounded out the top ten while Jon Ashby placed 11th.  Louisville swept the top three positions in the event, led by Tyler Byrne’s winning time of 17:53.16.

Louisville took top team honors in both events while the Aces were narrowly edged in each.  Kentucky Wesleyan and Oakland City also competed.

Evansville will be back on the course next weekend, traveling to Charleston, Ill. for the EIU Panther Open, which is set for 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
