BOX SCORE

ST. LOUIS –
The University of Evansville men’s soccer team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Saturday night at Hermann Stadium in St. Louis, as the Purple Aces fell 4-1 to the host Billikens.

With the score knotted 1-1 after an evenly played first half, the St. Louis (4-2-0) offense erupted for three goals over the final 45 minutes and scored two of its four goals via penalty kick.  SLU outshot the Aces (4-1-0) 8-3 in the second half and the Billiken defense held UE without shot on goal in the same span.

The Billikens controlled the action on the early going, earning a corner kick in the first four minutes and taking an early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute.  Alex Sweetin finished a chance at the top of the box, after a cross and a tip from Joe Roeckle and Robbie Kristo.

The Purple Aces evened the score in the 35th minute on a goal by Brandon Causey.  Causey recorded his first goal of the year by heading in a cross from Faik Hajderovic on a free kick service.  The assist was Hajderovic’s team-leading fourth of the season.

St. Louis regained the lead early into the second half, taking a 2-1 lead when Sweetin notched his second goal of the contest, finishing a penalty kick chance in the 52nd minute.  The Billikens tacked on another goal in the 64th minute to open up a two-goal cushion, as Adnan Gabeljic netted his third goal of the year off an assist by Nick Maglasang.

Roeckle got on the score sheet for the second time on the evening, when he converted on SLU’s second penalty kick of the match in the 73rd minute.  The tally was Roeckle’s second of the year and made the final score 4-1 in favor of the Billikens.

Hajderovic led Evansville offensively with four shots, while Causey, Nate Opperman and Nick Schroeder combined for the other three.  UE goalkeeper Eric Teppen made six saves in the loss and fell to 4-1-0 on the year.

The Purple Aces will look to rebound Wednesday, Sept. 19, when they travel to Indianapolis for a non-conference tilt with Butler.  Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
