Every month, University of Evansville Athletics Director John Stanley will answer questions submitted by fans regarding the happenings surrounding UE athletics. With the building of the Fifth Third Basketball Practice Facility, what kind of impact do you see that having on the UE basketball programs moving forward?
The new facility should be opening in October. I believe our fans will enjoy seeing the final product. We are extremely grateful to all of those who have contributed in many ways to make this project happen. Coach Simmons and Coach Epps believe this practice facility is a big step forward for the basketball programs. The recruits will like it and believe we are serious about winning. It will also provide our players a more consistent practice time and multiple opportunities to put in extra time as they so desire. Overall, it will create a very positive environment!
When we donate to the Purple Aces Club, how does that money impact the student-athletes and the athletic department?
Purple Aces Club gifts help pay for the Division 1 Athletic program. That includes the scholarships provided to the athletes, the events we play, the academic support of the Student/Athletes and a myriad of other things. Additionally, we are proud when we have growth in our Purple Aces Club members and work very hard to make sure they are communicated with about athletic happenings at UE. Our membership has grown and we would love for that to continue. The gifts make UE Athletics stronger!
UE's fans have enjoyed the opportunity to attend Hoopfest each year. Is that something that will continue for this season?
Hoopfest is scheduled this year for October 18th. I really enjoy the events and hope we have a big turnout. It is a chance to see and meet our Men’s Basketball and Women’s basketball players and staff. We have giveaways, food, and music. This year, we may change it up a little which we are working on now. It is basically the best chance to meet everyone in a fun, comfortable atmosphere. I would urge fans of all age to attend, but know that the young people love it. Mark it on your calendars and tell others. I know they will have fun!
