EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville men’s soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak with an impressive 4-0 win over visiting Oral Roberts, holding the Golden Eagles to just four shots, Sunday afternoon at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
Faik Hajdervoic netted a pair of goals in the win to bring his season total to three, while
Mark Anthony Gonzalez added a pair of insurance goals in the second half for his second and third tallies of the year. UE goalkeeper
Eric Teppen recorded his second clean sheet of the season between the posts, while backup keeper
Robert Randant tallied three saves for the Aces in his 17 minutes of action.
The Aces got the first goal of the match in the 27th minute when Hajderovic scored from 25 yards out. A right-footed shot from the freshman forward hit about three yards in front of the ORU keeper, before skipping over his outstretched hand and into the back of the net.
UE nearly doubled its lead with just over 15 minutes remaining in the opening stanza, when it created a breakaway opportunity after an Oral Roberts free kick. However, the Golden Eagles’ keeper was able to break up the chance after a misplayed ball.
It did not take long for Evansville to push its advantage to 2-0 in the second half, as Hajderovic scored an unassisted goal in the 47th minute. Hajderovic collected a loose ball outside the box, dribbled into the right side and fired a shot from 12 yards out inside the far post.
Gonzalez would score the net two for the Aces to make the final tally 4-0, as the freshman midfielder scored an unassisted goal in the 66th minute, before finishing a rebound from close range on a shot that was saved off the foot of
Dylan Terry. Terry was credited for the assisted to bring his season total to two.
UE outshot the Golden Eagles, 12-4, and posted a 5-2 advantage in the corner kick department. Gonzalez led the Aces with four shots, Hajderovic tallied three and five other Evansville players accounted for the other five.
Evansville will have just a two-day rest before returning to the pitch, as the Purple Aces will travel to Charleston, Ill., for a non-conference game with Eastern Illinois Tuesday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
