EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville men’s soccer team will look to remain unbeaten this weekend when it welcomes Bradley, Cincinnati and Portland to McCutchan Stadium for the 2012 ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic. The Purple Aces take on Portland Friday night at 7:30 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend with a 2:30 p.m. tilt Sunday afternoon against Cincinnati.
Evansville brings a 3-0-0 record into the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic and received votes in a pair of national polls this week, after posting a 3-2 overtime victory at Georgia State last Saturday.
Alex Kapsalis and
Jesse Sharp lead the Aces offensively with four points each. Sharp has scored a pair of goals on the season, including Saturday’s game-winner in Atlanta, Ga., while Kapsalis has tallied his points on a goal and two assists, including a three-point night against Lipscomb in the season opener
Eric Teppen has played all 280 minutes between the posts this season for UE, allowing just four goals for a 1.29 goals against average. The sophomore keeper has made 11 saves on the year, including a six-save effort in his last outing at Georgia State.
Portland brings a 2-1-1 record into Friday’s contest with the Aces, after downing Cal State Fullerton, 4-0, last weekend. The Pilots opened the season with a 4-0 loss against Cal State Bakersfield, before topping Cal State Bakersfield and earning a 1-1 tie against Wisconsin. Steven Evans has been the top offensive threat for Portland this season with eight points on four goals and 18 shots. Just Baarts has started all four goals between the posts for the Pilots and brings a 1.46 goals against average into Friday’s matchup.
Cincinnati stands at 1-3-0 on the 2012 campaign, suffering a 2-1 setback at No. 22 Xavier last Sunday. The Bearcats opened the season with a 1-0 win over Drake in their season opener in St. Louis, Mo., before suffering losses to nationally-ranked Indiana and St. Francis (Pa.). Cole DeNormandie leads Cincinnati with three points on a goal and an assist, while goalkeeper Taylor Hafling has played all 360 minutes in goal, notching 15 saves and recording 1.50 goals against average.
Friday’s meeting with Portland will mark just the second time the Aces have played the Pilots and Sunday’s meeting will be the first for UE against Cincinnati under current head coach
