EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Following an extremely successful outing in the Mid-America Opener last weekend, the University of Evansville cross country teams have their sights set on the EIU Panther Open set for Friday afternoon at 4:45 p.m.

Junior Kelby Jenkins ran away from the field last weekend, winning the race by 16 seconds with a time of 14:40.44.  It marked her first collegiate victory.  In just her first race as a freshman, Elizabeth Kingshott placed third on the strength of a 15:09.00 in the 4K event.

The Aces had five runners finish in the top ten as Alyssa Moran, Nicole Kreuzman and Kirsten Perrey placed 7th, 9th and 10th, respectively.

On the men’s side, senior Cody Stein took home fourth place honors, which helped him garner MVC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday.  Stein finished in a time of 18:33.20 to lead UE.  Thirteen seconds behind him was Josh Genet, who took fifth place with a time of 18:46.75 while Andrew Barrett and Sam Mires completed the top ten.

Last season, UE ran in the event as the women finished fourth and the men took sixth.  Andrew Barrett finished seventh in the race out of 134 runners while the top finisher on the women’s side was Lauren Zeabart, who took 8th place.  Kelby Jenkins wrapped up the event in 9th.
