Jenkins Takes Second Win As Cross Country Races At EIU

Kelby Jenkins and Cody Stein# were at it again, each leading their respective teams as the UE Cross Country Teams raced at the Walt Crawford Open, which was hosted by Eastern Illinois University.
 
Jenkins finished the 5K event in a time of 17:56.00 to take the win by eight seconds over Aftan Noon.  Southern Illinois had five of the top nine finishers in the race.  For the second-straight week, Elizabeth Kingshott was the second Aces to cross the stripe, placing tenth with a time of 18:37.39.
 
Lauren Zeabart took 13th place while Laurel Wolfe was 18th, Alyssa Moran came in 20th and Jacqueline Carlson wrapped up the day in 22nd.
 
As was the case in last week’s Mid-America Opener, Cody Stein led the way on the men’s side, wrapping up the 8K race in a time of 25:44.44 to take sixth place.  The Salukis of Southern Illinois paced the front of the field, taking the top four spots in the race.
 
Josh Genet reeled off another strong run, placing 8th with a 25:51.63.  Finishing behind him was Jon Ashby, who took 23rd on the strength of a 26:47.50.
 
In seven days, the teams will take to the course once again as they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Indiana Intercollegiate.  The first race is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
