EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Evansville head men’s soccer coach
Mike Jacobs will have the honor of presenting the Hermann Trophy to the Collegiate Soccer Player of the Year at tonight’s Missouri Athletic Club banquet in St. Louis.
Jacobs will join soccer legend Mia Hamm, who will serve as the keynote speaker for the event. Hamm was a two-time winner of the MAC Hermann Trophy during her playing days at North Carolina.
“The MAC Hermann award is college soccer’s version of the Heisman Trophy,” Jacobs said. “I am honored to represent the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America), the University of Evansville and college soccer in this capacity.”
Three finalists have been selected for both the male and female award based on a vote that was taken by Division I coaches who are members of the NSCAA. Also, an online fan vote (the equivalent of one coach’s vote) is factored into the final vote total.
On the men’s side, the finalists include the Missouri Valley Conference’s own Jose Gomez (Creighton), Ryan Finley (Notre Dame) and Patrick Mullins (Maryland). The women’s finalists include Crystal Dunn (North Carolina), Carolina Miller (Virginia) and Christine Nairn (Penn State).
The winners will be announced at a press conference at the MAC from 5:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. CST.
