EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Fans and supporters will have their final opportunity to see the University of Evansville cross country teams as they are set to play host to the Evansville Invitational on Saturday morning at the UE Cross Country Course near the intersection of Interstate 64 and Route 41.
Beginning the action will be the men's 8K race at 11 a.m. before the women take to the course at approximately 11:45 a.m. for their 5K run.
Kelby Jenkins is the defending champion for the women and has won the last three home events.
Josh Genet was the winner of the men's event, taking top honors with a time of 25:21.90.
Jenkins' efforts last season led the women to the team victory.
Elizabeth Kingshott came home in 8
th place while Maria Lynn was 10
th in the triumph. The men took third place.
Schools that will be running on Saturday include: Evansville, Marshall, Western Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, USI, Webster, Vincennes, Oakland City and Kentucky Wesleyan.
Jenkins won her third race of the season while Genet took 12th to lead the Purple Aces two weeks ago at the Greater Louisville Classic. Jenkins finished the event in a time of 17:37.28 to top the 329 runners in the race. Her effort was her fourth of the season under the 17:40 mark as she continues her assault on the UE school record for the 5K. Through five races this season, Jenkins has won three times while finishing second in the other two events.
In the men's 8K blue race, it was junior Genet posting the top finish for the Aces. He finished the run in a time of 25:56.11 to finish in 12th place out of an amazing 289 runners. It was his top 8K time of the season by one second. Unofficially, the men finished in 16th place out of 42 squads while the women completed the race in sixth place overall out of 51 teams.
Jon Ashby completed the run in a time of 26:49.11 to take 55th place while the aforementioned Frondorf was third for UE and 69th/289. He set a PR with a 26:58.37. Fellow frosh
Ben Woolems came home 88th with a 27:09.53, his top time at UE.
Kyle Wilson (29:06.61) rounded out the top five for Evansville and was followed by
James Paul (30:01.95) and
Billy McNicholas (30:02.92).
Laurel Wolfe was the second finisher for the women as her 19:16.97 was just two seconds off of her season best as she finished in 45th place. Kirsten Perry and
Maria Lynn finished about two seconds apart as Perrey took 63rd with a 19:29.22 while Lynn ran a 19:31.36 to take 68th. Lynn's time was the best of her UE career by 0.24 seconds.
Kingshott posted a 19:36.22 on her way to an 82nd place while
Jacqueline Carlson was 103rd, finishing in 19:47.06. Both were their top runs of the year.
