NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
The University of Evansville men's soccer team got a first half goal from junior Nick Schroeder and earned its second-straight shutout, as the Purple Aces defeated host Lipscomb, 1-0, Tuesday night in Nashville, Tenn., to give head coach Mike Jacobs his 100th career victory and his 71st as the head coach at UE.

The shutout was the third of the season for Evansville (10-5-1), as the Aces have now posted back-to-back clean sheets since conceding four goals to Indiana last Wednesday in Bloomington, Ind.  Junior goalkeeper Eric Teppen made five saves on the night and lowered his goals against average to 1.44.

"It was a great game to get a number of different players on against very good opposition," Jacobs said.  "Lipscomb is a very well-coached team and we were fortunate to hang on."

UE outshot Lipscomb (8-7-1), 9-5, in the opening half, with each team putting four attempts on frame, but Evansville was able to take advantage of the lone set piece in the first half, as Schroeder headed home a corner kick service from fellow junior Felipe Cortez in the 32nd minute to give the Aces a 1-0 lead.

"I thought Nick's goal was well-earned," Jacobs said.  "He was able to get on the end of a great service from Felipe."

The Bisons got off the final shot of the half in the 36th minute, when Teppen made one of his four first-half saves by collecting a save on a shot by Omar Djabi to keep the Aces' lead at 1-0 heading into halftime.

"I thought our midfield was very good in the first half and dictated a lot of the play," Jacobs added.  "Luis (Romero) was all over the field on both sides of the ball."

Lipscomb controlled the early stages of the second half, attempting the first six second-half shots, but the UE back line stood firm and did not allow a chance to reach goal.

The Bisons continued to hold the ball in Evansville's defensive third for much of the remainder of the match, as they outshot the Aces, 11-4, over the final 45 minutes and earned seven corner kicks.

UE successfully defended all seven set-piece opportunities by Lipscomb and allowed the Bisons to put just one of their 11 second-half shots on goal.

Offensively, Schroeder and fellow junior Luis Romero led Evansville with three shots apiece and freshman Tyrus Sciarra put a team-high two shots on goal.  Lipscomb's Reece Holcombe led all players with four shots.

The Aces will conclude their four-match road trip Saturday at SIU Edwardsville.  Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Ralph Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Ill.
