EVANSVILLE, Ind. – In one of the largest events of the year, the University of Evansville cross country teams will travel to Louisville on Saturday morning for the Greater Louisville Classic.

Both teams will run in the event, which will take place at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park with the men running an 8K event and the women running 5.  The Purple Aces men are set to run at 10:45 a.m. with the women starting at 11:30 a.m.  Both times are eastern.  Forty-three other teams will run with the men while the ladies run against 50 other institutions.

"This event will provide a great challenge to our teams," head coach Don Walters said.  "There will be some excellent competition at the race.  It is a flat, fast course, so we should see some pretty good times.  All of our runners are excited for the opportunity in this race."

UE last saw at the rainy Indiana Intercollegiates two weeks ago.  While the rain slowed down most runners, it did nothing to hamper the efforts of Evansville runner Kelby Jenkins.  For the second week in a row, Jenkins set the No. 2 time in UE history in the 5K.  She finished the race in a time of 17:33.91 on her way to a second place effort.  That set her PR by almost two seconds over her time from the week prior.  The race featured 201 runners.

Jenkins was rewarded with her second MVC Female Cross Country Runner of the Week award for her outing.  She is the first UE female to receive the award twice.  On the men's side, UE Hall of Famer Nick Waninger was named male runner of the week on three occasions in 2006.

Laurel Wolfe came in 40th place with a 19:37.03.  She was followed by Kirsten Perrey (59th-19:56.84) and Maria Lynn (61st-20:00.69).  The trio has each seen their results make them the No. 2 runner on the team with the latter pair setting PR's in the two weeks leading up to the race at IU.  Jacqueline Carlson posted a time of 20:08.14 to come in 68th while Nicole Kreuzman crossed the line in 81st with her 5K time of 20:21.17.

Josh Genet and Jon Ashby paced the men, finishing 37th and 48th, respectively.  Their efforts came against 199 total runners.  Genet ran a 26:30.92 while Ashby completed the 8K race in 27:05.75.

A trio of freshmen – Ben Woolems, Ross Frondorf and Kyle Wilson have improved each time they have taken the course.  Running at the collegiate distance, each has made a solid adjustment to the added distance and have established themselves as some of the top runners on the team.  Woolems was the Aces' third runner to cross the line, taking 79th with a 28:09.28 while Frondorf was ten spots behind with a 28:24.68. Wilson posted a time of 29:10.06.

After the race at Louisville, the Aces return home for the Evansville Invitational on Oct. 19.  It will mark the final regular-season event on the schedule as UE travels to Des Moines for the MVC Championships on Nov. 2.
