Women’s Hoops Set for Two in Tennessee

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
The University of Evansville women's basketball team will head to the state of Tennessee for a pair of games over the next three days, as the Purple Aces will play at Austin Peay Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Clarksville, Tenn., before concluding the trip with a 5:30 p.m. game at UT Martin in Martin, Tenn., Monday evening.
 
Evansville (2-3) topped Ball State, 80-69, in its last outing, as five Aces scored in double figures, including freshman Sara Dickey, who led all scorers with 22 points.  Junior Mallory Ladd and freshman Sasha Robinson both finished with double-doubles for the second-straight game in the win, finishing with 10 points and 13 rebounds, and 13 points and 10 boards, respectively.  Junior Kat Taylor bolstered the UE offense with 12 points and a team-high five assists, and senior Miranda Liles finished with 11 points off the bench.
 
Dickey leads Evansville in scoring (17.2 ppg), averages 4.6 rebounds per game and owns an 86.2 percent free throw percentage (25-for-29).  Ladd is averaging a double-double with 11.6 points and 11.0 boards per outing, while Taylor has dished out a team-leading 21 assists around just eight turnovers and ranks second on the team in scoring at 11.6 points per contest.  Robinson has added 6.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game and leads the team with a 48.3 percent shooting percentage.
 
As a team, the Aces are averaging 67.6 points per game and shooting 30.9 percent from the field, including a 25.0 percent mark from beyond the arc.  UE has connected on 77.8 percent of its free throw opportunities and owns a +1.0 rebounding margin.  Defensively, the Aces are forcing 17.8 turnovers per game and averaging 8.6 steals per contest.
 
Austin Peay (2-2) evened its record Monday night on its home floor against Trevecca Nazarene by defeating the Trojans, 98-77.  Tiasha Gray led the Lady Govs by posting the first-known triple-double in APSU history, as she finished the evening with 13 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds.  Four other Austin Peay players finished in double figures, including Tearra Banks and April Rivers, who both came off the bench to score 17 points apiece.  The Lady Govs shot 54.2 percent from the floor in the win and outscored TNU, 45-23, in the paint.
 
Individually, Gray leads APSU in scoring at 17.0 points per game and has tallied a team-high 29 assists and 10 steals, while collecting 5.3 rebounds per contest to rank second on the team.  Kristen Stainback is second on the team in scoring (12.5 ppg) and is averaging 4.0 rebounds per outing, while Banks is averaging a team-high 5.5 boards per game and adding 9.8 points per contest off the bench.
 
Austin Peay is averaging 78.2 points per game and owns a 43.3 percent shooting percentage, which includes a 35.5 percent mark from three-point land.  The Lady Govs have connected on 72 of their 100 free throw attempts for a 72.0 percentage and are averaging 15.5 assists per outing.  APSU has been outrebounded by its opponents by an average of 3.5 boards per game and have a -1.0 turnover margin.
 
Austin Peay leads the all-time series with Evansville, 10-5, and Saturday's game will mark the first meeting since the 2006-07 season, when the two squads split a home-and-home series.  The Lady Govs defeated the Aces, 74-72, on a buzzer-beating layup, before UE avenged the loss later in the season with a convincing, 72-44, win at Roberts Stadium.  APSU has won six of the last eight matchups and is a perfect 7-0 in games played in Clarksville.
 
UT Martin (3-1), who will host Missouri Saturday night, before hosting Evansville on Monday, has won its last two games, defeating Quinnipiac, 102-97, in overtime to close out the Preseason WNIT, before downing Arkansas State, 75-66, in Jonesboro, Ark.  Heather Butler led the Skyhawks with 25 points, going 7-for-20 from the floor and 6-for-6 at the line in the win over the Red Wolves, while Jasmine Newsome posted a double-double with 23 points and 11 boards.  Tiara Caldwell added 10 points and four rebounds.
 
Both Newsome and Butler are averaging over 20 points per game for UTM, as the duo owns marks of 24.5 and 20.5 points per contest, respectively.  Newsome has added 6.5 rebounds per game and a team-best 26 assists, while Butler has tallied 5.0 rebounds per outing, 10 assists and six steals.  Caldwell leads the squad on the glass with 8.3 rebounds per game and is shooting a team-high 53.8 percent from the field.
 
UT Martin is has averaged 78.8 points per game, but its defense has given up 83.5 per contest, as opponents are shooting 45.1 percent against the Skyhawks.  UTM has drained 37.6 percent of its shot attempts and is shooting 72.6 percent from the charity stripe.  On the boards, UT Martin owns a +0.8 margin and is forcing 14.5 turnovers per outing.
 
Evansville owns a 7-5 advantage in the all-time series with the Skyhawks, despite losing the last three meetings.  UTM defeated the Aces, 73-57, in last year's meeting at the Ford Center, behind a 23-point performance from Butler.
