Evansville Softball On the Road For Jackson State Tournament

Week Two Game Notes

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville softball team will travel for the second weekend in a row to take part in the Jackson State Tournament in Jackson, Miss.
 
Evansville will face host Jackson State as well as Nebraska-Omaha during the three-day tournament. The Aces will throw their first pitch on Friday beginning at 3:00 p.m. CST against Nebraska-Omaha.

The Aces are coming off an 0-5 start after opening their season at the Troy Invitational against Virginia Tech, Troy, and North Florida.
 
Senior catcher Halie Malone is currently leading Evansville with a .500 batting average with her eight appearances at the plate. Malone also recorded her first double of the season, alongside senior Kendall Kautz and freshman infielder #Kirsten O’Conner#. The Aces offense has tallied a total of 21 hits, nine RBI’s, and nine runs to begin their season overall.
 
Scouting the Opponents:
 
Nebraska-Omaha (9-1, 0-0 The Summit League)
Nebraska-Omaha enters this weekend series with a 9-1 record, with their only loss being against Iowa. The Mavericks were picked to finish fifth in the Summit League overall. Molly Negrete leads the Mavs with a batting average of .421 in her 34 appearances at the plate. With a .429 on-base percentage, Negrete has also racked up eight RBI and one homerun. Negrete has tallied six runs while recording one triple and two doubles on the season. Campbell Ditto has also shown power at the plate with a .387 batting average and 31 at bats, all while racking up two home runs. Dana Elsasser leads the pitching staff this season with 46.0 innings in the circle, tallying a .76 ERA and 28 strikeouts. Elsasser is 6-1 on the season with three shutouts while only allowing her opponents five runs.
 
Jackson State (4-9, 0-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference)
Jackson State enters this weekend series with a 4-9 record, with wins against Southeast Missouri State and Central Arkansas. The Tigers were picked to finish sixth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Jasmine Warren leads the Tigers at the hitting position with a .400 batting average and 20 appearances at the plate. While recording both a double and a triple on the season, Warren has tallied two runs, a .429 on-base percentage, and has stolen two bases out of four attempts. Chelsea Smith also has a .400 batting average with her five at bats, recording one RBI and one double on the season. Breea Jamerson leads the pitching staff this season with 29.0 innings pitched and a 4.10 ERA. Jamerson has struck out 12 and recorded one shutout for the Tigers, making her 1-4 on the season.
