EVANSVILLE, Ind. – With his 10-point performance at Bradley, University of Evansville senior Ned Cox scored his 1,000th career point of his collegiate career.

Cox stands at an even 1,000 at UE, becoming only the 45th player in program history to join the exclusive club.  The last player to hit that mark was Colt Ryan, who did so with 18 points in a road contest at UIC last season.

While Cox is proud of the accomplishment, he also realizes that there is a lot of work left to be done.  “It is a special accomplishment for me, but I have been devoting everything to my team,” Cox said.

Just seven games remain in Cox’s career and the reigning MVC Sixth Man of the Year is ready for UE to turn the corner and make a run to finish the season.

“This accomplishment is something that I definitely look back on when my career is over and will feel proud of,” Cox said.  “But right now, we just want to end the season on a high note.”

Stepping into an everyday starting position, Cox has flourished, reaching double figures in 16 games this season after doing so 12 times in all of last season.  He has used this new opportunity to become one of the main leaders on the Aces squad.

“It is all about being in a new role; last year we had Denver (Holmes) and Kenny (Harris) provide a lot of the scoring, but things changed this year,” Cox commented.  “Being one of the captains, I had the chance to step into the starting lineup and be a more consistent scoring threat.”

As his career rounds the homestretch, Cox has the chance to leave his mark on the program and possibly move up the all-time scoring list.  With 100 more points, he can jump into the top 35 on the list.

Those possibilities are the last thing on his mind as UE gets set for a stretch of three out of four games at home.  With the MVC standings as crowded as they are at this point, Evansville has the chance to make a statement and possibly set themselves up for a bye in the opening round of the MVC Tournament in St. Louis.
