EVANSVILLE, Ind. –The University of Evansville softball team has announced a change in its upcoming series with conference opponent Creighton. The Aces were originally scheduled to play the Bluejays in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16, before finishing the weekend in a single game contest on Sunday.
Evansville will now play Creighton on Friday, March 15, in a doubleheader beginning at 6:00 p.m. CST at Cooper Stadium. The Aces will wrap up the weekend on Saturday, March 16, with a single game slated to begin at noon.
Last weekend, UE went 5-1 in six home contests before playing admirably in a doubleheader loss at No. 8 Missouri. In the home weekend, Evansville outscored the opposition in dominant fashion, 37-14. Pitcher
Sarah Patterson had three stellar outings, picking up three victories over the weekend while pitching all 21 innings of her starts.
On offense, Evansville is led by sophomore
Kayla Fortner who averages a .372 batting average on the season while notching two doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 15 RBIs overall. Senior
Tamara Robey has also showed strength at the plate with a .327 batting average and tallying 13 runs and three RBI’s while going 11-for-12 in stolen bases.
Scouting the Opponent
Creighton Bluejays (14-8, 0-0 Missouri Valley Conference)
Creighton enters this weekend series with a 14-8 record, the top mark in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bluejays tied for the most players on the MVC Preseason All-Conference Team with three, including Amy Baker, Alexis Cantu and Becca Changstrom.
Baker leads the Bluejays’ offense with a .433 batting average in 67 plate appearances. While recording seven doubles and nine home runs on the season, Baker has tallied 14 runs and 22 RBIs on the season. Changstrom leads the pitching staff this season with a 1.60 ERA over 83 innings of action. Changstrom has struck out 102 batters white registering 11 complete games with four shutouts and one save for the Bluejays. She enters the weekend with a 9-4 mark on the season.
Following the action on Saturday, UE will have Sunday off before facing Drake in a series that has been moved to Evansville on Monday and Tuesday.
