UE Softball to Visit Wichita State for Three-Game Series

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville softball team will travel to Wichita, Kan. to face the Shockers of Wichita State as they head back into conference play for a three-game series. The Aces will gear up for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. CST on Friday, March 29, before finishing the series on Saturday in a single game contest starting at 12:00 p.m. CST.
 
Evansville, now 8-16 overall and 1-4 in Valley play, combine for a .233 batting average and have tallied 20 doubles, three triples and nine home runs this season. UE currently is tied for second in the Missouri Valley for stolen bases, grabbing 51 out of 60 attempts so far this season. The Aces are also tied for third in the conference for triples.
 
Scouting the Opponent
Wichita State Shockers (12-17, 3-2 Missouri Valley Conference)
 
Wichita State enters this weekend series with a12-17 record, with wins against Detroit and conference opponents Indiana State and Bradley. The Shockers currently lead the Valley in doubles with 45 and are second in the conference for 183 strikeouts. Wichita State’s pitching staff also comes in at the number three spot in the conference with a 3.06 ERA.
 
Layne Greenlee provides power at the plate for the Shockers with a .265 batting average out of her 49 appearances at bat. While recording three home runs, Greenlee has notched nine RBIs, four doubles, eight runs, and has swiped four bases out of her five attempts.
 
Katie Armagost leads the pitching staff with 96.1 innings pitched while striking out 57 and allowing 38 runs in her 18 appearances.  Armagost currently holds a 2.76 ERA with 11 complete games and a 3-11 record on the season.
