WICHITA, Kan. – Aces softball dropped to Wichita State in its final game of the series, 10-6.
Evansville’s offense tallied five hits on the day as they were led by junior
Niki Rahming as she went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. Rahming scored one run and notched her first triple in her career for the Aces. Senior
Tamara Robey grabbed her second triple of the season as she went 1-for-3 at bat and scored one run.
UE will be taking the field next as they travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo. on Tuesday, April 2, as they take on Southeast Missouri State in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m. CST. The Aces will then hit the road on Wednesday, April 3, for a doubleheader against UT Martin beginning at 4:00 p.m. CST.
Game Recap: Wichita State 10, UE 6
After a triple down the left field line by Robey, the Aces were off to a quick 1-0 lead over the Shockers in the first.
Wichita State soon answered back in the bottom half of the first inning as they tied it up, 1-1, off a throwing error by UE that allowed them to score.
The Shockers continued in the second with an RBI single that allowed Wichita State to take the lead, 2-1, over the Aces. With a home run to left center in the third frame, the Shockers once again added to the lead, 3-1.
Evansville fought back hard in the top of the fourth inning as they scored two runs off a fielding error by first base and a walk by sophomore
Victoria Dellorto that allowed the Aces to take the lead, 4-3. UE continued to score in the fourth as senior
Kendall Kautz was hit by a pitch, allowing a runner to cross home plate and continue over Wichita State, 5-3. Sophomore
Kayla Fortner made the last run in the inning as a throwing error by the catcher advanced her to home plate, making a 6-3 game.
With a reach on a fielder’s choice, the Shockers were able to score and close the gap a little as they made it a 6-4 game in the bottom half of the fourth.
Wichita State took control in the fifth inning as a double to left center drove in two runs and tied it up, 6-6. A ground out to second base then allowed the Shockers to take the lead over the Aces, 7-6.
The Shockers then took complete charge in the bottom of the sixth after a three run home run expanded their lead, 10-7.
The Aces were unable to score in the seventh after a pair of foul outs and a fly out to center field left them falling short. Wichita State took the victory, 10-7, over Evansville.
Sloan Anderson took the win for Wichita State as she improved to 11-6 on the season. Anderson pitched 3.2 innings, striking out two and not allowing any runs. Katie Armagost also worked 3.1 innings in the circle as she struck out two and allowed two runs.
Junior
Emily Morris suffered the loss for the Aces while seeing 1.2 innings and allowing four runs.
Sarah Patterson saw the start as she struck out two and allowed two runs in 2.2 innings.
