EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville softball team will host conference opponent Southern Illinois in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 17, beginning at 3:00 p.m. CST at Cooper Stadium. The Aces will then turn around and host SIUE in a single game contest on Thursday, April 18
th, starting at 4:00 p.m. CST.
Evansville (15-24) went 3-2 this past week as they defeated Middle Tennessee State and won its conference series against Bradley. Sophomore
Victoria Dellorto led the team on offense against the Braves in an impressive fashion as she went 5-for-9 throughout the series while notching four runs, two doubles, four RBIs, and two walks with a .636 on-base percentage.
The Southern Illinois doubleheader will be broadcasted live on the radio at WUEV.org.
Scouting the Opponents
Southern Illinois University Salukis (19-20, 7-6 Missouri Valley Conference)
Southern Illinois enters this series with a 19-20 record, with two wins against conference opponent Illinois State, two wins against Wichita State, and a three-game sweep against Missouri State. The Salukis were tied at first in the MVC Preseason poll in which four players earned 2013 MVC Preseason All-Conference honors.
Morgan Barchan, who was named to the 2012 All-Tournament Team and All-Conference First Team, leads the Salukis at the hitting position with a .385 batting average out of 130 at bats. While recording nine doubles and three home runs on the season, Barchan has tallied 35 runs, notched 17 RBIs, 24 walks, and has gone 4-for-6 in stolen bases.
Brittney Lang leads the pitching staff this season with 141.1 innings pitched and a 4.11 ERA. Lang has struck out 84 and has recorded 11 complete games in 33 appearances with two shutouts for the Salukis, making her 10-10 on the season.
SIU Edwardsville Cougars (31-8, 14-2 Ohio Valley Conference)
SIU-Edwardsville enters the contest at a 31-8 record, with wins against SEMO, Eastern Kentucky, and Tennessee State. The Cougars were picked to finish fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference West Division in the OVC Preseason poll.
Alex McDavid leads the Cougars at the plate with a .413 batting average with 126 at bats. While recording 35 runs and 52 hits on the season, McDavid has tallied eight doubles, eight home runs, 39 RBIs, nine walks, and has gone a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases.
Haley Chambers leads the pitching staff with 131.0 innings in the circle while recording 133 strikeouts, making her 17-2 on the season. As Chambers has made 21 appearances, she has notched five shutouts and has allowed just 33 runs with a 1.76 ERA.
