Aces Softball to Host Pink Game against Western Kentucky

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
The University of Evansville softball team will host its final non-conference game against Western Kentucky on Wednesday, May 1, beginning at 6:00 p.m. CST at Cooper Stadium.
 
The Aces (20-28, 11-12) are averaging a .242 batting average in Missouri Valley Conference play as seniors Tamara Robey and Brianna Villanueva are hitting a .303 and .298 respectively against conference opponents. Evansville has notched five of their total eight triples against MVC teams while tallying 145 hits, 87 runs, 21 doubles, seven home runs, 73 RBIs, five sacrifice flies, and have gone 35-for-45 in stolen bases.
 
Evansville softball, along with Zeta Tau Alpha, will host the Breast Cancer Awareness game in which $1 of every ticket sold will be donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer research. Survivors will be honored during the game and will receive free admission at the ticket gates.
 
Scouting the Opponent
 
Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers (35-14, 18-3 Sun Belt Conference)
 
Western Kentucky enters this series with a 35-14 record, with wins against Valparaiso, top conference opponent Louisiana-Lafayette and Missouri, a nationally ranked top 25 team. Western Kentucky was picked to finish sixth in the 2013 Preseason Sun Belt Coaches poll as senior Karavin Dew and junior Kelsie Mattox were selected to the 2013 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team.
 
Olivia Watkins leads the Hilltoppers at the hitting position with a .373 batting average out of 153 at bats. While recording six doubles and two triples on the season, Watkins has tallied 40 runs, nine walks and has gone 30-for-35 in stolen bases. With a .327 average in the batter’s box, Preslie Cruce also proves to be a powerful force for Western Kentucky as she has tallied 35 runs, nine doubles, 15 walks, three triples, 10 home runs and 25 RBIs while going 1-for-2 in stolen bases.
 
Emily Rousseau leads the pitching staff this season with 180.2 innings pitched and a 1.63 ERA. Rousseau has struck out 190 and has recorded 22 complete games in 32 appearances with six shutouts and one save for the Hilltoppers, making her 21-5 on the season.
