NORFOLK, Va. – The College Swim Coaches Association of America recognized its NCAA All-Academic Teams and the University of Evansville men's and women's swimming teams were both recognized on the list.
Under the leadership of head coach
Rickey Perkins, the women's swimming team boasted a GPA of 3.53 last season while the men also made the list with a cumulative GPA of 3.15.
"I am completely humbled and proud to be surrounded by such high quality people and student-athletes," Perkins said. "These teams strive to be their very best academically and athletically every day. To be ranked with some the best schools in the country is an honor."
The women finished in a tie for 11
th in NCAA Division I with their efforts while the men were tied for 40
th on the strength of their performance in the classroom.
UE's women were led by Mackenzie Powell's 3.96 GPA. Powell was one of 12 females named to the Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete Team in 2013. Four other Aces (Melissa Ball, Jill Enge, Abigail Yenzer and Jordan Van Wyk) joined Powell in being named Scholar-Athletes with GPA's over 3.8.
Kyle Tiemann earned a berth on the Men's Swimming and Diving All-MAC Team with his 3.47 GPA. Eighteen male swimmers were named to the team in April.
