EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
University of Evansville head men's basketball coach Marty Simmons has announced the non-conference schedule for the 2012-13 season.

Included in the 13-game schedule are eight contests against teams that won 17 games or more along with five contests against squads that finished in the top 95 in the RPI last season and seven in the top 120.

Prior to beginning the regular season, the Aces will play host to a pair of exhibition contests with the first being on Oct. 26 and the second versus Illinois-Springfield slated for November 2.  A week later, Martin Methodist will officially open the season on Nov. 9.  The RedHawks posted a 21-11 mark in 2012-13 while advancing to the second round of the NAIA National Tournament.

Evansville takes to the road for the first time with a trip to Indianapolis to take on IUPUI.  From there, the Aces will face one of the most competitive stretches in program history as five of the next six opponents posted at least 20 wins a season ago.  That road gets underway beginning on November 18th in the first game of the Ohio Classic.  UE will square off against Mercer at the Ford Center.  The Ohio Classic will feature three home games along with a trip to Ohio U.

Mercer played in the NIT last season on the strength of a 24-12 record and a 14-4 mark on its way to the Atlantic Sun regular season championship.  Three days later, in-state school Valparaiso comes to the Ford Center fresh off of a 26-8 mark.  The Crusaders won both the Horizon League regular season and tournament championships and gave Big Ten power Michigan State all they could handle in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, falling by a 65-54 final.  The opponent for a home outing on Nov. 23 is still being determined by officials from the Ohio Classic.

Following three home games, Evansville takes to the road for its next three, beginning with a Nov. 26 date with Indiana.  The Hoosiers are coming off of a 29-7 campaign where they advanced to the Sweet 16 for the second season in a row.  From there, UE will wrap up its berth in the Ohio Classic with a trek to Athens, Ohio to square off against Ohio University.  The Bobcats shared the Mid-American Conference title last season with a 24-10 record while going 14-2 in the league.  They participated in the postseason NIT.

The road swing wraps up on December 4 with a trip to Murray State as the Aces and Racers have kept a series going that began in the BracketBusters game in 2011.  The Racers posted 21 wins last year, eclipsing the 20-win mark for the fourth season in a row.

Evansville makes a trip back home to face Miami (OH) at the Ford Center on Dec. 7 before taking to the road once again to face an old rival as UE heads to Cincinnati to face former MCC foe Xavier.  The Aces and Musketeers have not met since they squared off in conference play in 1994.  Xavier has won at least 17 games every year since the 1995-96 campaign.

UE wraps up the pre-Christmas schedule with a pair of home games on Dec. 14 and 21.  Jackson State will be the first while Butler will be in town the next week.  The Bulldogs were as strong as ever in 2012-13, winning 27 games while posting the No. 21 RPI.  Non-conference play wraps up with a visit by Grambling State on the 28th of December.

Aside from the ultra-competitive non-conference slate, the Aces will face the Missouri Valley Conference beginning in January.  Headlined by Final Four participant Wichita State, the Valley had four teams finish in the top 89 in the RPI a season ago.  Evansville went 5-2 against MVC teams in that bracket and look for that type of success against the top teams in the league once again.
