EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to overcome an early deficit in a 3-1 win over visiting Georgia State Saturday night at Arad McCutchan Stadium. Sophomore
Mark Anthony Gonzalez scored twice and fellow sophomore
Faik Hajderovic added three assists in the victory.

In addition to Gonzalez's two tallies, Evansville (3-2-1) got an insurance goal from junior
Dylan Terry in the 40th minute. Juniors
Charlie Macias and
Felipe Cortez also recorded assists in the contest, as Macias was credited with an assist on Gonzalez's second goal and Cortez was part of the goal by Terry.

Sophomore goalkeeper
Eric Teppen made all five of his assists in the second half to preserve the win and up his record to 3-2-1 on the year.

Georgia State (0-5-0) took an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute, when Jamal Keene finished a cross from William Mellors-Blair for his second goal of the year. Mellors-Blair made a long run up the left side of the pitch, before sending a cross to the middle of the box, where Keene headed it past Teppen from eight yards out.

The Aces got the equalizer in the 18th minute on Gonzalez's first goal of the night, when he collected a pass from Hajderovic at the top of the box and sent a shot into the back of the net for his second goal of the year.

Exactly three minutes later, Gonzalez struck again to give UE a 2-1 lead. Hajderovic set up the scoring opportunity by playing a long ball to Macias on the left side, allowing Macias to send in a cross that was volleyed inside the far post by Gonzalez from two yards out.

In the 40th minute, Terry put Evansville in front 3-1 by finishing a pair of passes from Hajderovic and Cortez. Hajderovic started the chance with a long ball from the center of the pitch down the right sideline to Cortez, who played the ball into the middle of the box and finished the chance.

The Panthers' best first-half scoring chance came with 36 minutes remaining in the stanza, when Stephen McGill collected a cross inside the back, creating a one-on-one opportunity. However, Teppen made a diving save to end the chance.

In the second half, Andrew Weber nearly scored for GSU with just under nine minutes to play in the match, when he fired a shot just over the crossbar from 18 yards out.

Offensively, Gonzalez led the Aces with four shots and two shots on goal. Hajderovic bolstered the UE offensive attack with three attempts.

Georgia State was able to earn eight corner kick attempts, but the Evansville defense stood strong, as Aaron Jones led the Panthers with three shots.

Evansville will return to action next weekend, when the Aces host the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic. UE will open the two-day event with a match against NJIT Friday night at 7:30 p.m., before wrapping up the Classic with a 2:30 p.m. Sunday against Eastern Illinois.
