UE Tennis Strong in Opening Day at MVC’s

Day One Results

DES MOINES, Iowa –
Friday's opening day of the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Tennis Championship saw the Purple Aces have a strong showing with two days remaining.
 
Main draw singles featured Evansville wining four out of six matches along with two consolation victorious.  Doubles action saw UE earn the win in two out of three tries.
 
It was Marketa Trousilova playing in flight one singles for UE.  She was victorious over Alexa Brandt of Bradley, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.  She will face Abby Stevens from Wichita State in the second round.  Sophomore Andjela Brguljan continued her stellar beginning to 2014.  In flight three, she topped Valerija Gercar of Illinois State, 6-4, 6-3.  She faces Aleksandra Trifunovic from the Shockers next.
 
Marina Moreno earned the win over Missouri State's Ekaterina Donetskova in the fourth flight, 6-4, 7-5.  Next up for her is a matchup against the Shockers' Giulia Guidetti.  One of the Aces top players on the day was Mina Milovic.  Playing in flight six, Milovic defeated Savanna Hunt from UNI and is set up to face WSU's Summer Schlotterback.
 
In flight two main draws, Natasha James fell to Gabriela Porubin from WSU, 6-0, 6-2.  She later bounced back against Donna Haycock of Illinois State.  James won the consolation match, 6-3, 6-1.  Kennedy Craig also went 1-1 on the day.  She took her first loss of the season in the fifth flight against Jordan Eggelston (Drake), 7-5, 6-0.  She rebounded in consolation action, topping Cricket Geldermann (Illinois St.), 6-4, 6-3.
 
Doubles action saw the Aces victorious in the top two flights.  Playing in the top spot were Moreno and Trousilova.  The duo defeated the Redbirds' Kadi Ilves and Chanel Scudiero, 8-6.  James and Milovic were victorious in the second flight. They earned an 8-6 win over Ariadna Baza and Athena Chrysanthou from SIU.
 
Flight three doubles saw Brguljan and Craig fall to Nell Boyd and Maddie Johnson of Drake by an 8-0 final.  They take on Illinois State in the consolation round.
 
Trousilova and Moreno are set to take on Bradley in the second round of singles play while James and Milovic will face Wichita State in flight two.
