EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After the official reopening of Wyttenbach Pool last weekend, the University of Evansville swimming and diving teams are back in action on Friday, facing Missouri State at 3 p.m.
"MSU is the best team in both the MAC and the Valley, they won both the men's and women's titles last year," Purple Aces head coach Rickey Perkins said. "Our goal is simple - compete to the best of our ability. I believe if we do that we will have a really good meet against them."
Leading the way this season has been
Danielle Freeman. This week's Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week is undefeated through two meets.
Through two meets this season, Freeman is undefeated against solid competition out of the gate. The Aces opened up the season last weekend at the Butler Quad Meet, facing Saint Louis, Butler, Valparaiso, Xavier and Western Illinois.
She earned wins in the 50 Freestyle (23.96) and 100 Freestyle (52.71). She also teamed up to lead the Aces to a win in the 200 Medley Relay with a 1:48.93. Against SIU, she was victorious in three more races.
Leading off for UE in the 400 Free Relay, she helped the Aces win with a time of 3:33.52. In the 50 and 100 Freestyle, she won once again, recording times of 24.18 in the 50 and 52.53 in the 100. Both currently rank as the top times in the MVC.
Ashton Bishop has been the top performer for the men thus far. Bishop posted three second place finishes as the Purple Aces swam against Southern Illinois last weekend. He took part in a pair of relays, coming in second both times. He contributed to a 3:31.31 400 Medley Relay while also taking part in the 400 Freestyle Relay, which finished at 3:12.18.
