SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A Missouri State goal in the 94th minute gave the Bears a Missouri Valley Conference Regular Season Championship and a 1-0 overtime win against the visiting University of Evansville men's soccer team (6-10-1, 4-2-0) on Saturday night.

Following a 93rd minute shot that went high for Emmerich Hoegg, Missouri State was able to gain control of the UE goal kick and set up Hoegg on a pair of passes for the game-winning, conference championship clinching goal. The goal at 93:00 was the sixth for Hoegg this season and took place just 40 seconds after his last shot attempt went over the crossbar.

The loss for Evansville makes the Purple Aces a three seed in the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. UE will play the sixth seeded and tournament host Bradley Braves in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, November 12 at 6:00 p.m.

The first half featured Missouri State outshooting Evansville 5-1 but neither team was able to score the go-ahead goal. The same can be said for the second half as the Bears also outshot the Aces 8-3.

Evansville's best chances in regulation occurred late in the second half. Missouri State goalkeeper Addison Watson made back to back saves on a 76th minute shot from senior forward Charlie Macias and an 81st minute blast from junior midfielder Mark Gonzalez to preserve the tie.

The Aces almost won the match in the 90th minute but a shot from junior midfielder Faik Hajderovic sailed high over the crossbar, sending the match to overtime.

Exactly three minutes into the first overtime, teammates Brandon Barbero and Parker Maher gained control of a goal kick to feed Hoegg over the top and into the middle of the 18 yard box for the game winner.

The loss snaps the Aces streak of four consecutive wins in MVC play.

Hajderovic took a team-high two shots for UE. Senior goalkeeper Eric Teppen had one save on the night.

The Aces will now have Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to prepare for a rematch against Bradley on Wednesday evening. The Braves knocked the Aces out of the 2013 MVC Men's Soccer Championship Quarterfinals with a 3-2 double overtime win last season. UE was victorious 2-1 on the Braves home field back on October 11 of this season. Gonzalez and freshman midfielder Ian McGrath scored in the last meeting as Teppen notched eight saves. Bradley leads the all-time series 14-9-1 against Evansville.
