EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Sophomore guard Sara Dickey led the University of Evansville women's basketball team with 31 points in a Purple Aces 76-72 exhibition game loss to Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon.

Junior forward Mallory Ladd amassed another 16 points and gathered six rebounds in the cross-town matchup.

For the third straight season, USI and Evansville met in an exhibition at the Ford Center.

UE held an early 3-0 advantage when Southern Indiana committed a turnover and Dickey hit a three on the opposite end. Unfortunately for Evansville, that would be the last lead for the Purple Aces. USI responded by going on an 11-2 run including eight points from Screaming Eagles forward Anna Hackert, who also totaled 31 points on the afternoon.

USI continued to add on their lead and were ahead 23-11 at the 12:42 mark of the opening half. Down by double digits, Evansville was able to bring the deficit back down to five points on a Ladd three pointer with 9:01 remaining. USI surged back, however, with back to back layups from Cayla Herbst and Kaydie Grooms making the score 31-22.

UE brought the lead back down to six at halftime when USI held a 38-32 advantage. Dickey, 16 points, and Ladd 10 points, both reached double figures in the first half.

Evansville stormed back again after halftime by scoring five of the next seven points. A Dickey three with 16:41 on the clock moved Evansville back within three.

USI then went on a 12-0 run to regrow the edge back to 15 points.

The Screaming Eagles lead stayed double digits until UE got another three from Dickey with 4:46 to go, making the score 69-60.

Evansville then proceeded to go on a 10-3 run where a Dickey layup with 1:41 left brought UE within two points.

Leading 72-70, Southern Indiana got a layup and a pair of free throws from Hackert to complete the Screaming Eagles road win.

Evansville shot 40% from the floor, compared to 57% by Southern Indiana.

Freshman guard Kenyia Johnson, senior guard Khristian Hart, sophomore forward Sasha Robinson  each totaled six points each in the game for UE.
