Aces allow season-low 41 points in win over Miami (Ohio)

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women's basketball team (3-4) yielded a season-low in points during their 51-41 win over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday evening. Senior forward Mallory Ladd notched her 17th career double-double with a 14 point 12 rebound performance in the UE victory. Sophomore guard Sara Dickey also added nine points and a career-high six assists in the Aces second straight win.
 
After both teams swapped baskets to begin the game, the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks pulled away with a 9-4 lead on an Ana Richter layup at the 12:55 mark of the opening half. Down by 5, Evansville responded by going on a 15-0 run. Senior guard Khristian Hart and junior guard Laura Friday connected on back to back threes for a 17-9 edge. A follow-up lay-in by freshman forward Peyton Langston completed the run for a 19-9 lead.
 
The RedHawks then brought the lead down to three by scoring seven consecutive points. Guard Kayla Brown hit a jumper and Miami (Ohio) sunk four straight free throws to trail 21-18 with 21 seconds left until halftime. UE then finished the opening stanza by scoring the final five points. Hart made a layup and completed the three-point play with a free throw. Ladd then hit a jumper with just four seconds left for the eight point edge.
 
Evansville led 26-18 at the half as Hart, Ladd and freshman guard Kenyia Johnson all had a team-leading six points each. The Aces held the RedHawks to just 29.2% shooting from the floor in the opening half.
 
Miami (Ohio) pulled closer again by going on a 10-4 run to begin the second half. Forward Jessica Rupright made a pair of layups at the end of the stretch, shrinking the Aces lead to 27-25 margin with 16:31 left in regulation. Up by only two, Evansville had another response, going on an 18-7 run for a thirteen point lead, their largest of the game. Dickey scored four of her nine points during that time as Ladd also hit back to back threes for the 45-32 lead at the 8:04 mark. Miami (Ohio) brought the deficit back to single digits, 45-38, with a three from guard Baleigh Reid at the 4:46 point of the second half. UE scored six of the final nine points on the night securing their second home victory in as many chances this season.
 
Evansville forced 24 turnovers in the game and had 10 steals on the night. Evansville has created 51 turnovers and notched 28 steals defensively over the last two games (both wins). UE also scored 20 points off the Miami (Ohio) turnovers on Saturday. The Aces committed only 10 turnovers in the game, tying a season low (Ball State, Nov. 16). Johnson set new career highs with seven points and four rebounds in the contest. Dickey and Ladd both tied career-highs with four steals each in the game.
 
UE seeks their third consecutive win when they host Oakland City on Tuesday, December 9. The special Education Day game begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Ford Center in Evansville.
