CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In a hard-fought match on Saturday, Lipscomb defeated the University of Evansville women's tennis team by a 4-3 final at the McCallie School in Chattanooga.
The day got off to a strong start for the Purple Aces as the squad took two out of three doubles efforts to earn the opening point of the day. In flight one,
Marketa Trousilova and
Natasha James topped Deahna Welcher and Jenny Borck, 7-5.
Kelsey Costales and
Andjela Brguljan were strong in the second slot, topping Laura Kent and Melissa Kromer by a final of 6-2.
Lorena Djuknic and Sierra Troxel took the win in third flight doubles, beating
Marina Moreno and
Mina Milovic, 7-6 (10-8).
Trousilova played at No. 1 singles for the second time in her career and remained perfect in that position, defeating Welcher, 6-3, 7-6 (3). Also taking a singles triumph was Milovic, who defeated Troxel in the sixth flight, 6-1, 6-2.
At No. 2 singles, James was defeated by Kromer, 6-3, 1-6, 10-8 while Moreno fell to Kent in the third group, 6-3, 5-7, 11-9. Brguljan was topped by Borck, 6-1, 6-3 in flight four and Costales fell to Djuknic, 6-1, 6-1, in fifth flight action.
Evansville will look for a victory on Sunday as they wrap up the trek to eastern Tennessee when the face Chattanooga. The match is slated to begin at 12 p.m. ET at the McCallie School. Live stats for the contest are available here:
