EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Visiting Drake knocked down 14 three-pointers, including 10 in the first half, in a 72-57 win over the University of Evansville women's basketball team in Missouri Valley Conference action Thursday night at the Ford Center.

A trio of Evansville (7-14, 2-8 MVC) scored in double figures and combined for 40 of the Purple Aces' 40 points, as freshman Sara Dickey led the way with 19 points on a 5-for-7 shooting effort. Fellow freshman Sasha Robinson posted her first double-double since Dec. 4 by scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, while junior Kat Taylor finished with 10 points.

Drake (10-11, 4-6 MVC) established its long-range presence early in the game, as the Bulldogs scored their first 12 points in four three-pointers to build a 12-5 lead just over six minutes into the contest.

Kyndal Clark drained yet another DU three at the 10:55 mark to give Drake a 21-12 lead, before UE scored seven-straight points on back-to-back jumpers by Robison and Taylor, and a Dakota Weatherford three from the left corner to trim the margin to 21-19 with 8:58 remaining in the opening half.

However, Drake countered by continuing its three-point barrage, hitting three more triples as part of a 9-0 run to push its advantage back to 30-21 with just over five minutes to play in the half.

The Bulldogs led by as many as 12 in the opening 20 minutes and took a 36-26 lead into the locker room, after scoring 30 of its 36 first-half points on 10 threes.

DU shot 48.0 percent (12-for-25) from the field in the first half, including a 45.5 percent clip (10-for-22) from behind the arc. Evansville connected on 11 of its 29 first-half field goal attempts, while hitting just four of 14 three-point tries (28.6 percent).

Drake carried its momentum into the second half and slowly began to increase its lead, going up 51-33 on a free throw by Clark with 14:46 left in the contest.

The Aces cut the lead to 14, when Taylor knocked down a jumper with 6:35 remaining and again just 25 seconds later, when Dickey sank a baseline shot, but the Bulldogs quickly but an end to UE's comeback chances, when Lizzy Wendell drained one of her six threes on the night with 5:47 remaining to put DU back up by 17 at 65-48.

The two sides traded baskets for much of the remaining five and a half minutes, as Drake cruised to the 72-57 triumph.

Wendell led the Bulldogs with a game-high 28 points, going 10-for-15 from the field and 6-for-10 from long range. Clark finished with 21 points, hitting five of her 14 three-point attempts, as part of a 7-for-17 effort. Caitlin Ingle also finished in double figures with 15 points and added seven rebounds.

DU shot 51.1 percent (24-for-47) for the game and finished 14-for-34 from distance for a 41.2 percent clip. Evansville made 23 of its 60 field goal attempts (38.3 percent) and went 6-for-24 (25.0 percent) from three-point land.Â

Both teams hauled in 34 rebounds, with the Aces pulling down 11 on the offensive glass for 10 second-chance points, but Drake scored 15 points off of 13 UE turnovers.

Evansville will look to halt its six-game slide Saturday, when the Aces host Northern Iowa at 1 p.m. for its annual Hoops for the Cure event.
