EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville softball team will host Southeast Missouri State in a mid-week doubleheader on Mar. 20. The games will start at 12:00 p.m. and will be held at Cooper Stadium.
Evansville enters the contest after splitting a series against in-state rival Indiana State on Mar. 15.
The Aces are 10-9 this season and have been putting on an offensive showing.
Megan Gurski has shown great confidence at the plate, hitting .424, which is good enough for 69
th in the country, with 16 RBI and four homeruns. Junior
Kayla Fortner is third on the team with a batting average of .316, scoring 11 runs to go along with four homeruns and 12 RBI.
Freshman
Emma Buckles is ranked 38
th in the country in stolen bases with 11 on 12 attempts and the team as a whole is ranked 16
th in the country with 2.00 per game.
Fellow freshman
Briana Combs, 2-1, has come on as of late in the circle, having a team best 2.33 ERA, striking out 10 in 27.0 innings.
SEMO, 5-9, will enter the doubleheader having lost to North Dakota State, 0-11 on Tuesday. The Redhawks will also be playing Indiana State tonight in a doubleheader, before coming to Evansville tomorrow.
The Redhawks top players have been sophomores Savannah Carpenter, who is hitting .463, with 12 RBI and three homeruns and Hannah Durham in the circle, who has gone 2-2 in 23.1 innings, striking out 14.
After the mid-week matchup, the Purple Aces will host Missouri Valley Conference rival Bradley University at Cooper Stadium on Mar. 22-23.
