EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville softball team will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to take on Belmont University in a mid-week game. The Aces will take on the Bruins at 4:00 p.m. at E.S. Rose Park.
The Purple Aces will enter the mid-week contest with a 12-12 overall record after losing a conference series 0-3 to Missouri Valley Conference rival this past weekend.
The Bruins, 7-18 overall, will be coming off of a five-game losing streak, with their most recent loss, 5-0, being against Murray State on Sunday.
UE brings in a lot of offensive power, starting with juniors
Kayla Fortner and
Megan Gurski. Fortner had one of her best weeks of the season last week, hitting two homeruns to go along with four RBI, scoring four runs on three hits, was walked five times and stole one base while batting .250. Gurski really contributed to the team's success this week with her pitching. The Aces' Ace had an ERA of 1.24 in 17.0 innings of work while striking out 15.
Belmont will enter the game behind junior Kat Hollingsworth, Hollingsworth is hitting .386 with two homeruns, 15 RBI, eight stolen bases and seven walks. Behind Hollingsworth is Jessica Wilson. Wilson has four homeruns and 18 RBI with a .485 slugging percentage and 11 runs this season. In the circle for the Bruins is Taylor Moon. Moon has a 3.58 ERA with a 3-5 record in 58.2 innings of work and striking out 28.
After the mid-week game, Evansville will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on MVC rival UNI in a weekend conference series.
The conference series at UNI has a few schedule changes. The Aces will play in the UNI-Dome at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday with the second game of the doubleheader being played shortly after game one ends. The Sunday game will be played at 12:00 p.m.
