NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Evansville softball team traveled to Nashville, Tenn., to take on the Belmont Bruins in a mid-week game on Wednesday and the Purple Aces would leave Nashville with a big bounce back win.

Evansville wound up beating the Bruins in 5 innings of play, by a final score of 8-0.

Junior Megan Gurski (5-6) started the day in the circle for UE, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing only one hit while striking out two, as the junior from Saskatchewan would receive the win.

After a scoreless first inning for both squads, Evansville would strike first in the top of the second with a solo homerun from Gurski to give the Aces the early 1-0 lead.

Evansville wouldn't be able to add any runs in the top of the third and after Gurski kept the Bruins off the board in the bottom of the inning, UE took over in the top of the fourth.

The top of the fourth saw a Niki Rahming RBI double, a Chandra Parr two RBI triple and an Emma Buckles three RBI triple, to give Evansville the 7-0 lead. Buckles would score one more run on a wild pitch, putting the Aces up 8-0 heading into the bottom of the inning.

Annie Moore came in to pitch for UE in the bottom of the fourth and the sophomore from Melrose, Iowa retired three to get through the inning, keeping the Bruins scoreless.

After UE wasn't able to add any more runs in the top of the fifth inning, the Aces brought in senior Taylor Perry to close of the game. Perry would load the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but the senior showed great poise and closed out the game with three strikeouts, to get Evansville the win.

Evansville will have a few days rest before traveling to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on Missouri Valley Conference rival Northern Iowa in a weekend series scheduled for March 29-30.
