CARBONDALE, Ill. – In its opening Missouri Valley Conference match of 2014, the University of Evansville women's tennis team fell to Southern Illinois by a 5-2 final on Wednesday afternoon.

Natasha James played extremely well in the league opener for UE, beginning with doubles. James teamed up with
Kelsey Costales to earn an 8-7 victory over Meagan Monaghan and Natasha Tomishima. The duo improved to 6-2 in their least eight doubles efforts.

At No. 2 singles, James won her second in a row, topping Anita Lee, 1-6, 6-1, 7-5.Â

Doubles play saw the Salukis take the first point of the day, earning the wins in the second and third flights. At No. 2,
Marketa Trousilova and
Marina Moreno fell by an 8-7 final to Anita Lee and Korey Love. The third flight saw Ariadna Cairo Baza and Polina Dozortseva defeat
Mina Milovic and
Andjela Brguljan by a final of 8-3.

Aside from James' singles point, Trousilova posted her fifth victory in a row at the top flight, defeating Tomishima, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 11-9.

No. 3 singles saw Monaghan defeat Moreno in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 10-6. Dozortseva earned the win over Costales in the fourth flight, 6-2, 6-4.

Brguljan was defeated by Ariadna Cairo Bazza, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5 singles while Milovic fell to Gisela Cairo Baza in the sixth flight, 6-2, 6-1.

On Sunday, the Aces will travel to Indianapolis for a make-up match against IUPUI with the start time set for 2 p.m. ET. Next weekend, the Aces will host their final two home matches beginning on April 5 versus Drake. Both matches are set to take place at Wesselman Park.
