EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Originally scheduled for March 2, the Purple Aces women's tennis team will travel to IUPUI to take on the Jaguars on Sunday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
Winter weather caused the original match to be postponed, but Sunday's weather looks much better as the University of Evansville looks to gain momentum prior to resuming conference play at home next weekend.
Wednesday marked the Missouri Valley Conference opener for the Aces as they traveled to Southern Illinois. The Salukis earned a 5-2 victory, but UE took several positives out of the defeat.
Natasha James was on top of her game, earning wins in singles and doubles. At top doubles, she teamed with
Kelsey Costales to deal Meagan Monaghan and Natasha Tomishima an 8-7 defeat.
James also earned the win at No. 2 singles, topping Anita Lee, 1-6, 6-1, 7-5. Evansville's other point on the day came courtesy of
Marketa Trousilova. Playing at top singles, Trousilova defeated Tomishima, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 11-9. The victory was the fifth in a row for the junior in singles action.
IUPUI starts the weekend at 1-13 in dual play. The Jaguars victory came on March 1 as they took a 4-2 decision against Dayton. Since then, IUPUI has gone 0-4, falling by a combined score of 26-1.
Julie Brockman has been the top performer for the Jaguars, accumulating three singles wins this season in the fifth and sixth flights. In dual doubles action, Brockman and Abbey Neff have posted two wins in the third flight.
Next weekend, the Aces will host their final two home matches beginning on April 5 versus Drake. Both matches are set to take place at Wesselman Park.
