WICHITA, Kan. – Evansville's No. 2 doubles team of
Marketa Trousilova and
Marina Moreno won their fifth match in a row, but Wichita State used its home court advantage to take a 7-0 victory over the Purple Aces on Saturday night.
One of the top performances of the night for UE came from flight two doubles. Trousilova and Moreno won their fifth-consecutive match as they defeated Rebecca Pedrazzi and Blasco Fernandez by a final of 8-1.
Top doubles saw
Kelsey Costales and
Natasha James fall to Lucia Kovalova and Veronika Blaskova, 8-1. In the third flight,
Andjela Brguljan and
Mina Milovic were defeated by Julia Schiller and Abby Stevens. The final was 8-5.
Trousilova put forth a valiant effort at No. 1 singles. She faced Schiller, who entered the night with a 12-5 mark. The match went to three sets before Schiller clinched the win, 6-3, 2-6, 12-10.
In the second flight, it was Pedrazzi defeating James, 6-1, 6-1. Flight three saw Moreno defeated by Kovalova, 6-1, 6-1. Stevens got past Costales at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Brguljan put forth another gutsy performance against senior Fernandez on Saturday. She came up just short in her match, falling 6-2, 6-3 in the fifth flight. Milovic was topped by Blaskova at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0.
Just two more regular season matches remain for the Aces. They take to the road to face Illinois State on Friday at 3 p.m. before making the quick trek to play Bradley on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
