ST. LOUIS – University of Evansville senior
Jake Mahon was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances against Oakland City and Wichita State this week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Mahon led Evansville by hitting an even .400 and driving in at least one run in each of the Purple Aces' four game this week. The senior third baseman finished the week 6-for-15 with three doubles, five runs scored and eight RBI, while posting a .474 on-base percentage. Defensively, he did not commit an error in five chances at the hot corner.
The Plain City, Ohio native opened the week by going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in a win over Oakland City, before driving in three runs with a bases-clearing double in the series opener vs. Wichita State. On Saturday, Mahon drove in two runs and scored three more in 2-for-4 effort, before capping the series with another RBI double Sunday afternoon.
Mahon and the Aces will return to the diamond Tuesday, April 15, at 3 p.m., when they travel to Murray State for a midweek, non-conference game, before returning the MVC play next weekend, April 18-19, at league-leading Dallas Baptist.
