Softball to take on Salukis in Doubleheader

Aces will travel to Southern Illinois to take on MVC rival

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville softball team is set to travel to Carbondale, Ill., to take on Missouri Valley Conference rival Southern Illinois in a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday, April 16 at 3:00 p.m.
 
The Purple Aces will look to get back on track after dropping this weekends series to Drake, and going 1-4 in their last five games. Evansville is currently 16-23 on the season with a 4-10 conference record.
 
The Salukis have gone 3-2 in their last five with their latest series being a 2-1 victory over Bradley. SIU is 19-19 this season with a 7-7 conference record.
 
As of late, freshman Chandra Parr has been one of Evansville's best players. The freshman from Anna, Ill., has a .302 batting average, six homers, 23 RBI, has been walked 13 times and has six hit-by-pitches. Parr hit two of her homeruns this past weekend against Drake, leading to the Aces 8-2 win over the Bulldogs. Juniors Megan Gurski and Kayla Fortner have also been stellar for the Aces. Gurski has six homeruns and a team leading .370 batting average, while Fortner has hit a team leading nine homers and has 25 RBI.
 
SIU will enter the series behind senior Jayna Spivey and freshman Shaye Harre. Spivey is hitting .341, has 30 RBI, three homeruns and 18 walks, while Harre is hitting .296, has a team high four bombs and 33 RBIs and has been walked 22 times. Katie Bertelsen has been the Salukis' Ace, throwing 137.1 innings and striking out 43.
 
After the mid-week conference doubleheader, the Aces will travel to Normal, Ill., to take on the Illinois State Redbirds in a weekend conference series.
