PEORIA, Ill. – Evansville's women's tennis team gained some momentum heading into the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament next weekend, completing the regular season with a 5-2 win over Bradley on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Aces (8-12, 2-4 MVC) got off to a strong start, sweeping through doubles.
Kelsey Costales and
Natasha James got it started at the top flight, taking an 8-1 victory over Adele Henke and Sarah Rodefeld. The triumph ended a quick 2-match skid.
In flight two,
Marketa Trousilova and
Marina Moreno were victorious for the seventh straight time. They defeated Ashley Thai and Carly Miles by an 8-0 final to finish league play with a 5-1 mark.
Andjela Brguljan and
Mina Milovic finished off the doubles sweep, taking an 8-2 decision over Cassia Wojtalik and Ariel Dechter.
Singles play featured the University of Evansville taking four matches en route to the 5-1 win. At the top flight, Trousilova jumped to 10-2 in her last 12 efforts. She defeated Henke, 6-4, 6-1. With losses in the second and third flights, Evansville's 4
th-6
th flights picked up the slack with Costales taking the win in the fourth flight. She defeated Rodefeld, 6-3, 6-4.
Flight five saw Brguljan earn a win in two sets. She topped Miles, 6-2, 6-0. Milovic completed the effort at No. 6 singles. She dealt Elizabeth Przystawski the loss in two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
At second-flight singles, James fell to Dechter, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. No. 3 flight saw Moreno lose to Thai, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Next up for UE is the MVC Team Tennis Championship in Normal, Ill. The Aces will take on their conference competitors beginning on Friday, April 25 with play going through Sunday. Evansville's opponent will be released as soon as all of this weekend's competition is completed.
