The intent of the day is to recognize NCAA student-athletes in the state of Indiana who have excelled academically, athletically and in their communities. Focusing on sportsmanship and teamwork, student-athletes will participate in a community service activity with local youth (Dream Keepers Camp) as well as attend a session to enhance their personal and professional growth. Tamika Catchings from the Indiana Fever was the guest speaker.
Miranda Graham was very appreciative to be in attendance at the event:
"I am grateful for the opportunity to have attended National Student-Athlete Day at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis. One of my favorite parts of the day was working together with student-athletes from across the state to learn how to better our resumes, as well as our social media profiles, to help us prepare for the future. I also enjoyed hearing Tamika Catchings speak about the importance of community, time, being a student, and family. Following this speech, we were able to participate in a service project with children from the community. Tamika taught us how important it is to always "leave our handprints on the world" and that is exactly what I hope to do."
Freshman Will Glasscock from the men's swimming team also was very thankful to be in attendance:
"National Student Athlete Day was great because it gave me an opportunity to meet fellow athletes as well as give back to the community."
The University of Evansville's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee helps promote an environment for student-athletes, which emphasizes leadership, community service, communication and integration with the campus community.
