Round Two Results
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A trio of Purple Aces made big jumps as the University of Evansville women's golf team completed day two of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship at Panther Creek Country Club.
Sophomore
Paige Crafton led the Aces in Sunday's opening round and bettered her effort on Monday. Crafton shot a 75 on Sunday before improving by one stroke with a 2-over 74 on Tuesday as she takes a 149 into the opening round. She jumped from a tie for 14
th place into a tie for 6
th entering Tuesday's final round.
Freshman
Kayla Katterhenry also improved on the scorecard and in the standings. Katterhenry began the event with a 76 before posting a 75 on Monday to move into a tie for 12
th place. She jumped eight spots with her score of 151.
Making the biggest jump from Sunday was junior
Cathy Doyle. She improved three strokes on her opening round total of 78 as she wrapped up Monday's round with a 3-over 75. Doyle marched up the charts from a 32
nd-place tie into 23
rd with a 153.
Senior
Sydney Skiles posted an 82 on Monday and stands with a 158 while freshman
Maggie Camp carded a round of 87 and finished the opening two days with a 165.
Bradley continues to lead the way in the team rankings with a 599. Following a record-setting 293 on Sunday, the Braves posted a 306 on Sunday and have a two stroke lead going into Tuesday's final round.
Wichita State jumped into second place thanks to the low round of the day with a 304. Coupled with their opening round score, the Shockers stand just two strokes behind with a 601. Indiana State fell one spot to third on the cusp of a 307. They are four strokes off the lead with a 603.
Illinois State is in fourth place (606) while Southern Illinois and Missouri State (608) are tied for fifth. The Aces enter the last round in seventh place, just three shots out of the top five.
Danielle Lemek of the Braves continues to lead the individuals. She followed up Sunday's 3-under with a 70 on Monday. She holds a lead of five strokes over McCall Christopher of the Sycamores. Lemek stands at a 139 while Christopher checks in with a 144. Alejandra Arellano from WSU is in third place with a 145.
The championship resumes with the final round of 18 on Tuesday. Groups begin to tee off at 9 a.m. with the final groups slated to begin at 10:30.
