MVC Tennis Bracket Released

ST. LOUIS – Four days remain until the Missouri Valley Conference Tennis Championship and the bracket for the women's side has officially been released by the league.

The University of Evansville begins the event as the sixth seed and is matched up against Drake, who is the No. 3 seed.  Match time on Friday is set for 2 p.m. at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts in Normal, Ill.  Earlier this season, the Bulldogs took a 5-2 win over the Purple Aces in a match at Wesselman Park.

Evansville's success that day came via the doubles point along with a singles victory by Mina Milovic.  Flights one and two saw UE take victories to earn the opening point of the day.  Kelsey Costales and Natasha James earned an 8-5 win over Maddie Johnson and Lea Kozulic in the top flight.  No. 2 doubles saw Marina Moreno and Marketa Trousilova take down Nell Boyd and Klavdija Rebol by an 8-5 tally.

Moreno and Trousilova have been on an absolute role over the last two months.  Since February 28, the duo has won 13 out of 14 matches and ride a 7-match streak going into Friday's championship opener.  They also won six out of seven conference matches.  Their lone defeat came in the opener at Southern Illinois.

This season marks the third time Evansville has finished in or tied for sixth place entering the tournament.  The Aces finished the 2004 and 2009 seasons in a tie for that position.  They finished the 2004 championship in a 3-way tie for sixth while 2009 saw UE as one of four squads to tie for fifth.
