Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Evansville softball team was unable to come away with a Missouri Valley Conference series victory on Sunday, as the Purple Aces fell to the Loyola Ramblers. Evansville dropped the final game of the weekend series, 4-0, after splitting the first two games on Saturday.
After falling on Sunday, Evansville sits at 18-30 on the season and has a 6-17 Valley record, while Loyola is now 21-28, and 10-13 in Valley play.
UE started
Megan Gurski (9-13) in the circle and the junior pitched a solid game for the Aces.
The scoring didn't start until the bottom of the second, with Loyola taking the 1-0 lead on an RBI sacrifice fly.
Gurski kept the Ramblers scoreless in the third and fourth innings and after Evansville failed to get any runs on the board in the top of the fifth, the home team Loyola took advantage and added three more runs to the board in the bottom of the fifth.
Loyola scored on two passed balls and an error, as the Ramblers took the 4-0 lead. Evansville took out Gurski and brought in
Briana Combs and that would be the day for the junior, as she received the loss for UE. Gurski finished the day throwing 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on three hits, with only three of the runs being earned and striking out two.
Combs got out the bottom of the fifth, not giving up a hit. Evansville didn't add any runs in the sixth and the Purple Aces brought in
Taylor Perry to pitch. Perry faced six batters, but did not allow a run and kept the game 4-0 Loyola heading into the seventh.
UE was unable to get their offense going in the top of the seventh and dropped the series finale by a final score of 4-0.
The Purple Aces will travel to Western Kentucky on Tuesday to take on the Hilltoppers in a single game.
