EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville won its sixth doubles point in eight tries, however, Drake on five out of six singles matches to earn a 5-2 win over the Purple Aces on Saturday afternoon at Wesselman Park.
Evansville opened up the day by taking two out of three doubles tilts to earn the first point. At No. 1 doubles,
Kelsey Costales teamed up with
Natasha James to defeat Maddie Johnson and Lea Kozulic, 8-5.
Marketa Trousilova and
Marina Moreno also earned an 8-5 win. They topped Nell Boyd and Klavdija Rebol in the second flight. James and Costales improved to 8-2 in their last ten appearances. Trousilova and Moreno have also been riding a hot streak. They are 7-1 over their last eight matches.
No. 3 doubles saw Jordan Eggleston and Mariel Ante earn an 8-6 win over
Mina Milovic and
Andjela Brguljan.
Drake, who improved to 12-3 with the win, took five out of the six singles matches to earn the victory. Evansville's bright spot came from Milovic. Playing in flight six, Milovic defeated Kozulic, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Flight one saw Rebol defeat Trousilova, 6-3, 6-1. James played at No. 2 singles where she fell to Ante, 6-0, 7-6. At flight three, Johnson beat Moreno in two sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Boyd defeated Costales at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 7-5. Brguljan fell to Eggleston in the fifth flight, 6-1, 6-2.
The Aces will play their final home match on Sunday against UNI. Match time is set for 10 a.m. at Wesselman Park. Prior to the contest, senior Kelsey Costales will be honored before playing her final home match at UE.
