EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Purple Aces women's tennis squad will be in town one last time on Wednesday as the University of Evansville travels across town to face USI for a 3 p.m. match at the USI Tennis Courts.
On Sunday, the Aces picked up their first Missouri Valley Conference win, an impressive 5-2 triumph over UNI. With the win, the Purple Aces improved to 6-10 on the season and 1-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play. Prior to the match,
Kelsey Costales was honored during Senior Day festivities.
Evansville rallied around her, beginning with doubles play. For the seventh time in the last nine matches, UE grabbed the opening point of the match.
Natasha James and Costales won their fourth in a row at top doubles. They defeated Jieke Stroobant and Erica Medlin, 8-4.
At No. 2 doubles,
Marina Moreno and
Marketa Trousilova pushed their season mark to 9-1. They picked up an 8-5 win over Elvira Lopez and Astrid Santos. Third flight doubles saw Krissy Lankelma and Jordyn Kearney defeat
Mina Milovic and
Andjela Brguljan, 8-5.
Four out of six singles tilts went Evansville's way, leading to the 5-2 final.
The Screaming Eagles enter Wednesday's tilt with a 6-13 mark and have started GLVC play at 1-3. USI's top player has been Elizabeth Skinner, who is 10-6 this spring with all of her work coming in the fourth flight.
Skinner, along with Miranda Camp, have been strong at third flight doubles, going 5-3 in their opening eight tries of the calendar year.
