EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Looking to gain momentum heading into the homestretch of Missouri Valley Conference play, the University of Evansville women's tennis team did just that on Wednesday, earning a 9-0 win against the University of Southern Indiana at the USI Tennis Courts.
The 9-0 score was due to Division II rules with each doubles flight counting as one point. Evansville won its second match in a row while improving to 7-10 on the season. The Screaming Eagles fell to 6-14 with the defeat.
Natasha James and
Kelsey Costales faced Elizabeth Wilm and Morgan Coquerille at top doubles, earning an 8-2 win. In flight two,
Marketa Trousilova and
Marina Moreno took an 8-1 win over Brenna Wu and Elizabeth Skinner. James and Costales were winners for the fifth match in a row while Trousilova and Moreno won for the fourth straight time.
Andjela Brguljan and
Mina Milovic were victorious at No. 3 doubles. They defeated Shannon Joyce and Miranda Camp by an 8-1 final.
All six singles flights went UE's way with each going just two sets. Trousilova got the job done at the top flight, defeating Coquerille, 6-0, 6-0. She improved to 8-1 in her last nine outings.
James moved to 5-1 in her last six in the second flight. She defeated Wilm, 6-1, 6-2. At the third flight, Moreno topped Wu, 6-2, 6-0. No. 4 singles saw Costales earn the win over Skinner, 6-1, 6-1.
Brguljan continued to evolve in her freshman campaign. She defeated Kymberly Brannon in the fifth flight, 6-0, 6-0. The win marked her fifth in the last seven tries. Completing the win in the sixth flight was Milovic. She defeated Alyssa Hoover, 6-0, 6-3. The win was her third in a row.
It is back to the road for the remainder of the season for the Purple Aces. That trek begins this weekend with a trip to face Wichita State on Sunday for a 10 a.m. match. April 18 and 19 will see UE face Illinois State and Bradley before heading to the MVC Team Championships in Bloomington, Ill. beginning on April 25.
