Eight UE student-athletes received MVC recognition on Saturday

Purple Aces Seniors Honored at Graduation Breakfast

5/13/2014 3:42:00 PM

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Four years of work in the classroom and on the playing field give University of Evansville student-athletes one of the greatest all-around experiences in the country.  Prior to Saturday's graduation ceremony, 41 student-athletes, seven athletic trainers and three dancers were recognized for their work over their collegiate careers.

"This senior class achieved a lot on the court and off the court," Purple Aces Athletics Director John Stanley said.  "We have had competitive success, excellent academic results, and an overall group of student-athletes that contributed greatly to the University of Evansville and our community."

At a breakfast on Saturday morning, Stanley joined the student-athletes, their families, coaches and staff to take the time to recognize their accomplishments.  Each athlete was recognized individually for their efforts in athletics and academics.

Highlighting the event was the recognition of eight student-athletes who were honored with the Missouri Valley Conference Presidents Council Academic Excellence Award.  Earning the honor for the Purple Aces were: Kelby Jenkins (4.0 – Cross Country), Stephanie Thompson (3.993 – Women's Soccer), Jacqueline Carlson (3.952 – Cross Country), James Kohler (3.941 – Baseball), Daniel Musselwhite (3.932 – Swimming/Diving), Melissa Ball (3.903 – Swimming/Diving), Lauren Seyller (3.827 – Volleyball) and Rachel TenHoor (3.824 – Volleyball).

The President's Council Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum 3.8 cumulative grade point average (through Fall 2013 semester), participation in athletics a minimum of two years, and the student-athlete must be within 18 hours of graduation.

The full MVC academic release, including President's Council honorees, Commissioner's Excellence Award winners, and Honor Roll qualifiers will be announced by the Missouri Valley Conference next month.
