EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Evansville junior Kyle Pollock became the second Purple Ace drafted in the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, after being selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 20th round Saturday afternoon.

Pollock, who was an All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team selection, was selected with the 603rd overall pick, after hitting .310 with 15 doubles, three triples and a team-high five home runs.  The Clinton, Ohio native also drove in 50 runs to tie for the conference lead in that category and threw out 13 would-be base stealers from his position behind home plate.

The junior catcher led Evansville by tallying multiple hits in 21 games this season and drove in multiple runs a team-high 14 times.  Pollock drove in a season-high five runs with a 3-for-5 effort at Dallas Baptist (April 19).

Pollock is the second Aces' player draft this season, joining classmate Kyle Freeland, who was taken by the Colorado Rockies with the eighth overall pick, and is the sixth UE draftee in head coach Wes Carroll's six-year tenure.
