EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville men's soccer team fell to visiting Cincinnati, 4-1, in an exhibition contest Friday afternoon at Arad McCutchan Stadium. The Purple Aces scored first on
Kevin Schafer's penalty kick in the 18th minute, before the Bearcats scored the final four goals of the match.

Evansville controlled possession in the early going and nearly scored in the 12th minute, when senior
Charlie Macias made a run through the middle of the field and fired a driving shot past Cincinnati goalkeeper Alex Gill, before being denied by the far post.

Schafer gave Evansville the early 1-0 lead, after converting a penalty kick that was earned when senior
Nick Schroeder took a hard foul just inside the box.

The Bearcats quickly rallied and tied the match in the 27th minute, when John Manga made a run down the left side of the field, before dribbling past a UE defender and depositing a shot into the upper, right corner of the goal.

Later in the half, Cincinnati took the lead for good on an immaculate free-kick strike off the foot of Emmanuel Appiah in the 34th minute. With the ball resting approximately three yards off of the right corner of the box, Appiah bent a shot around Evansville's defense wall and inside the near post for the eventual game-winner.

The Bearcats added a pair of insurance goals in the second half, when Terence Carter and Ashani Walker scored on nearly identical plays just under four minutes apart. Both Carter and Walker made runs up the end line, before doubling back around the Aces' left back and finishing the chances into the far corner of the net.

For the match, Cincinnati outshot UE, 16-11, and attempted seven corner kicks to Evansville's four.

Junior
Nate Opperman led the Aces' offensive effort by attempting three shots and putting two on goal, while Appiah and Matt Remaley each fired a team-high three shots for the Bearcats.

In goal, Alex Gill picked up the win for Cincinnati, making six saves in his 90 minutes between the posts. Senior
Eric Teppen made four saves, while allowing all four goals for UE in 69 minutes of action and freshman Matthew Keller made one save over the final 21 minutes.

The Aces will wrap up their preseason schedule Sunday evening at 5 p.m., when they host Indianapolis at McCutchan Stadium.
